Our Voyage Journal

Our adventure is over for now. There will be one more update when we finally are settled.

Our adventure started when we left Sidney BC on July 15th 2004, our first sail together without our instructor. We traveled north through Campbell River, Port McNeill, Prince Rupert, then onto Alaska to Ketchikan, Petersburg, Tracy's Arm, Hoonah, Elfin Cove and finally our destination of Glacier Bay Alaska , the Ice Fields. From here we started to head south where we sailed the Gulf of Alaska to Masset on the top of the Queen Charlotte Islands, then back to Sidney to repair the boat after our shakedown trip. This portion of our trip was to test the boats systems and performance and to allow us to gain some sailing experience still relatively close to home.  This was a shakedown trip which shook both the crew and the boat as expected. It was the best thing in hindsight we could have done for the boat and us.

With our repairs completed we left Sidney to head to warmer climates to Port Angles, Garibaldi, San Francisco (Oakland), Halfmoon Bay, Long Beach and finally San Diego to complete the year 2004.

In 2005 we left San Diego to go to Ensenada to clear into Mexico, then onto Turtle Bay, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz and across to Puerto Vallarta to prepare for our passage across the Pacific. We left Puerto Vallarta to cross the Pacific ocean 3,000 miles landing in Hiva Oa in the Marqueisis Islands, onto Tahuata, Fatu Hiva, Ua-Pou, Nuka Hiva, onto the Tuamotu Islands of Ahe and Rangiroa. We then proceeded to Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora to finish up our tour of the French Polynesia. From here we continued onto the Cook Islands to visit Rarotonga, then onto Tonga's Vava'u group of islands to Fiji, Latoka, Musket Cove, Savu Savu, then onto Tuvalu, Funafuti and then to Kiribati, Gilbert Islands, Tarawa and ending the year in Abemama for Christmas and finishing the year out.

In 2006 we returned to Tarawa to check out of Kiribati and then began a 3,000 mile trip against the trade winds and equatorial currents to Canton in the Phoenix Islands and onto Hilo Hawaii. In Hawaii we went to Kona and spent time in Honolulu by Barbers point on Ohau. From Honolulu we had a 24 day passage to Victoria Canada arriving on July 1st Canada Day.. From Victoria we closed the loop to arrive in Sidney on July 6th 2006 just shy of a 2 year adventure.

We sailed 20,000 miles crossed the equator 4 times and crossed the date line twice in tropical locations other only dream of.
